Your attic needs to 'breathe'. Sounds a little funny but it's true! There should be air coming in and air going out, passively controlled by ventilation. While there are different types of ventilation, they need to be installed correctly and working appropriately for the amount of space you have. In this 'before' photo you can see that the insulation is pushed all the way up against the wood sheathing (the underside of your roof) and there are no baffles in place. This is preventing air from flowing upwards and through the soffits (a type of intake ventilation) into the attic and out which can lead to moisture, which WILL lead to mold. In our 'after' photo, you can see that the insulation is pulled back the slightest bit and a baffle (imagine a snorkel) is placed to allow airflow, it creates a snorkel, or chute for air to come in. We treated the mold and the underlying cause so it doesn't return!
Attic mold found during home sale.
Our customer called an stated his buyers called for a Home Inspection for a sale and the attic had a suspicious substance on the sheathing and trusses. Our referral for the customer came from his realtor. Once our inspection was completed our customer wanted to get this attic cleaned as soon as possible so he was not to loose a sale. TCI came in and used Mold X2 products to remediate the mold and placed duel wide rafter venting (baffles) after clearing soffits of debris and insulation. The buyers and seller were happy we did the job so quickly and happy to receive a Certificate of Completion for a one year paid in full warranty we provide once attic is cleaned.
Our customers home was on the housing market and a buyers inspection showed possible mold in the attic. Our customer was happy we could clean the mold and correct the ventilation in an expedient manner. We used Mold X2 and Mold X2 Botanicals to clean the sheathing and trusses. We also cleared all soffit vents of debris and insulation and added new rafter baffles to correct airflow in this space. The home past final inspection and both seller and buyers were happy.
