Our homeowner noticed a dark coloration on the boards in his attic and called us to check for mold. He also mentioned his attic had poor ventilation. After our inspection was competed there was clearly mold. We also gave a price to re-insulate which the customer wanted for his HVAC never turns off when the weather is super hot or cold. We used Mold X2 and Mold X2 Botanical products and cleared soffits of debris and insulation then added new rafter baffles to correct. Once all insulation was removed we air sealed and added Cellulose. Our customer was happy his HVAC wasn't on all the time.
The homeowner explained that he had noticed dark discoloration all over his roof sheathing inside the attic. He had mentioned that his attic was poorly ventilated from the beginning of the build that it needed to be corrected. The symptoms of the problem were high humidity in the attic along with zero airflow.
Our customer called after they had a home energy audit by their energy company. The energy company explained their attic has an insufficient amount of insulation for our Michigan climate. Rooms in the home were colder and the furnace had been working constantly to keep up with the thermostat temperature setting. We added TruSoft cellulose insulation over the top of the batt insulation which is still in good condition and will act like a thermal barrier for this new blanket of insulation. Our customer called to let us know the furnace was not running constantly anymore and rooms were warmer.
This customer called due to ventilation issues in his attic causing moisture condensation to build up on sheathing. His soffits were blocked with insulation not allowing proper airflow. We cleared the soffits and added insulation to R60.
