Reducing Costs To Heat And Cool This Home In Whitmore Lake, MI
Challenge
TCI's Challenge? Lower the cost of heating and cooling the home!
Cathedral ceiling with over one dozen can lights, no problem!
Chilly interior gable wall, we got that!
Attic floor unsealed with air escaping everywhere? We know how to handle that too!
Solution
Our solutions for this home were very inclusive but followed a simple concept: In order to reduce the costs of 'conditioning' the air with heat and AC we had to stop that conditioned air from leaving the home in the first place. Air escapes, it's just what it does. We helped to combat that for this home using our knowledge of building science and superior products.
Can lights in that cathedral ceiling? And that air escaping everywhere? We utilized TiteShell™ covers coupled Zypfoam™ to seal the can light covers, top plates and attic floor. The Zypfoam™ is an expanding foam that fills in all the teeny tiny spaces that air can get through and is exclusive to Attic Systems Dealers.
The chilly gable wall? That required a little extra so we used 4" rigid foam board called SilverGlo™, not just as a physical thermal insulator but thanks to the reflective coating, a radiant barrier as well! The Silverglo™ is a patented product infused with graphite that acts as tiny heat reflectors, only available for those in the Attic Systems network (which, of course, TCI is!). This small detail increases the R Value of this foam board by roughly 24%. The gable wall didn't stand a chance.
