Attic Air Sealing & Insulation In Brighton, MI
Challenge
Our customer had been living a challenging life: in a hotel for months while renovations were underway in their home. It would be worth it though, a brand new bathroom was the light at the end of the tunnel. Until...the walls started to "bleed". From under light switch covers & a brand new, beautiful bathroom light fixture reddish brown dripping tracks were found. Upon further investigation the attic was found to be completely WET. The wood and insulation were wet, and the sheathing was frosted. There was a bath fan venting directly into the attic. The challenge for TCI? We needed to implement the solution quickly to save the new remodeled bathroom.
Solution
TCI had the solution for this homeowner. With the dumpster delivered, we removed all of the wet, contaminated insulation. The bath fan was routed outside the attic (where it belongs!) using insulated duct. The space was vacuumed and cleaned to prepare for air sealing. We placed baffles so the attic and soffit vents could 'breathe'. We utilized fiberglass batt insulation as a 'blocker' between the exterior top plates and baffles so the cellulose insulation wouldn't block the soffits. Finally, we blew in TruSoft™ Cellulose Insulation. The bathroom was saved, and thanks to a now-properly functioning attic system, our customer will be able to save on monthly utilities and have more comfortable temperatures year-round.
